Location
Honer is a remote hamlet set on the edge of Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve which is well known amongst bird watchers and walkers; it is also part of the village of South Mundham.
Honer’s remoteness belies the fact that it is 15 minutes from the A27. Brighton, Portsmouth and Southampton are within an hour’s drive and London 2 hours. Within easy reach of Honer Cottage, 5-6 miles away, the ancient city of Chichester has much to see and do. A short drive away North is Goodwood estate, famous for both motor and horse racing, the Weald and Downland outdoor museum and the famous West Dean House and gardens.
West of Chichester are Fishbourne, Bosham, Emsworth and then the naval city of Portsmouth. To the East you will find the historic town of Arundel and the seaside resorts of Bognor Regis and Littlehampton and to the South are the fantastic beaches of Wittering and sailing spots such as Itchenor.
If walking and bird watching are preferred, one can walk from Honer Cottage door to the 1500 acres of salt marshes, shingle beaches, lagoons, farmland and copses of Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve within minutes Here there are birds of many types breeding and on migrations at various times of the year. Alternatively, the South Downs National Park has a huge range of possibilities.
The Crab and Lobster in Sidlesham, a gastro-pub, is approximately 30minutes walk around the harbour's edge and The Lamb and the Bear at Pagham, more traditional pubs, are about the same in the opposite direction across the fields. 10 minutes drive takes you to The Walnut Tree at Runcton.
